This page contains information about the CITES Workstation Group's system installation and setup services.
System Setup is available to owners of new workstations who need to get their workstations up and running. It is also available to owners of existing workstations who would like to have their workstation completely reinstalled with the most current version of the operating system.
System Setup service is arranged by appointment and includes:
- installation of operating system and relevant patches
- installation of a set of useful utilities (ph, a Web browser, news, etc.)
- if desired, connection of workstation to the campus network, assuming a network connection is available
- basic configuration and testing of sendmail
- assistance, as needed, for one week following the installation to address any lingering setup problems
The purpose of System Setup is to provide a functioning, usable workstation to the owner, with a week of assistance to address any unforeseen startup problems. After that period, the owner is responsible for the system administration and maintenance of the workstation.
