Short-Term Network Guest Accounts: Who's Authorized to Create Them?
For IT Pros
This page contains information for campus IT pros and other campus hosts about how to sponsor short-term network guest accounts that can be used with the campus VPN.
Any student, faculty, or staff member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign can create 2 network guest accounts for up to 3 days.
However, when more than 2 guests are arriving, 3 categories of people are authorized to create many guest accounts at once:
Designated departmental or unit staff
Departments and units may designate up to 6 individuals as authorized guest account registrars. Guest account registrars can create many network guest accounts at once.
Note that the department is held responsible for the actions of the people to whom they grant guest access.
The departmental application form is available online in Microsoft Word or PDF formats.
Submit the completed form to:
CITES Communication Technologies
DCL 2120
MC 256
or email the completed form to wireless@illinois.edu.
Conference organizers
Conferences that need to connect to UIUCnet Wireless for a short period
of time may be granted a certain number of guest accounts. If the
conference organizer is not one of the department's guest account
registrars, then the conference organizer should contact the department's
guest account-authorized personnel.
The department must sign the UIUCnet Wireless agreement to assign
individuals the ability to create guest accounts. This should be
coordinated through the CITES Network Design Office (NDO)
network designer who is coordinating wireless access for the event.
To contact the NDO about wireless networking questions, email wireless@illinois.edu or call (217) 333-0299.
VPN and Wireless Service Managers
The VPN service manager and wireless service manager are authorized
to create VPN guest accounts. To contact them, email wireless@illinois.edu or
call (217) 244-1600.
