Getting Ready for UC @ Illinois

This page provides information about getting ready to implement the UC technology in your working environment.

There are several ways to get ready for UC@ Illinois. There will be one-on-one assistance available through local IT staff and through the CITES Help Desk, but you can also use other resources to educate yourself as to what to expect from these new services. Check these UC pages regularly and monitor other communications channels (e.g., CITES News, CITES Facebook page, eweek) about upcoming UC @ Illinois educational opportunities.


Several kinds of events, for a variety of audiences, are scheduled over the next few months to introduce campus to the specifics of UC @ Illinois. Please continue to check here for up-and-coming events that might be of interest.

We are planning events and information sessions for a variety of campus communities, including business managers and administrative support staff.

Training Opportunities

For Microsoft Training resources for both Outlook 2010 for Windows and Outlook 2011 for Mac, please click here. Training for Microsoft Lync (Windows) and Microsoft Communicator (Mac) is being planned.

FAST3 offers a number of training opportunities to better prepare you for UC @ Illinois. There are several training workshops available for Outlook 2010 (Windows) and Outlook 2011 (Mac). New classes include Outlook 2010: Contacts & Tasks and Outlook 2010: Web App and are offered at no-cost to University faculty and staff.

If You Are an IT Pro (or Advanced User)

IT support staff across campus are playing a major role in the implementation of UC @ Illinois.

  • As units are considering their transitions to UC, IT Pros are encouraged to check out the IT Pro Experiences with Exchange migration wiki space, which includes documents prepared by CITES and information shared by IT Pros who have taken their units through the transition to Exchange.
  • As units make the transition, staff involved have access to UC @ Illinois College/Unit Transitions, a Sharepoint site that includes transition-specific documentation and timelines. The site is set up with individual tabs for colleges/units that are in the process of transitioning. Access to these sections is determined by the personnel involved in the transition and is limited to those in the college/unit.
