SMTP-Secure Configuration for Other Clients
This page contains SMTP-Secure configuration information for other email clients.
Introduction
This page assumes that you have already configured your email client software to send and receive illinois.edu email, either through Express Email (yournetid@illinois.edu) or through a departmental server (yournetid@department.illinois.edu).
If you have not yet configured your client for illinois.edu email, see the Express Email documentation or your departmental email server's documentation.
Configuration
Use the following settings for your email client in the Outgoing Email server area (often called SMTP).
| Where your client configuration asks for... | Enter... |
|---|---|
| Host name or SMTP server name | smtp-secure.illinois.edu |
| Port numbers | 587 (preferred) or 25 |
| Encryption or secure connection method | TLS |
| User name | Your NetID |
| Password | Your campus Active Directory password |
Note: In most cases, your Active Directory password will be the same as your Express Email password. If you use a departmental mail server – for example, if your email address is yournetid@department.illinois.edu – your Active Directory password may be different from your departmental email password.
