SMTP-Secure Configuration for Mac OS X - Mozilla Thunderbird
This page contains SMTP-Secure configuration information for Mac OS X Thunderbird users.
Introduction
This page assumes that you have already configured your email client software to send and receive illinois.edu email, either through Express Email (yournetid@illinois.edu) or through a departmental server (yournetid@department.illinois.edu).
If you have not yet configured your client for illinois.edu email, see the Express Email documentation or your departmental email server's documentation.
Configuration
1. Go to Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP)
2. If you have an existing SMTP configuration, select it and click Edit. (If you don't have a configuration entered, click Add.)
3. Enter the following information in the SMTP Server configuration window:

Description: SMTP-Secure
Server name: smtp-secure.illinois.edu
Port: 587
Use name and password: Checked
User name: Your NetID
Use secure connection: TLS
4. Click OK.
Sending mail
If you are prompted for your password when you send mail, use your Active Directory password.
Note: In most cases, this will be the same as your Express Email password. If you use a departmental mail server – for example, if your email address is yournetid@department.illinois.edu – your Active Directory password may be different from your departmental email password.
