This page contains information about how to register your computer so that it can be more easily located and recovered if it were stolen.
There are many different steps that you can take to prevent your laptop from gettting stolen. However, it is also important to take precautionary measures in case someone does steal your laptop.
One of the best precautions that you can take is registering your laptop with CITES Security. The information that you provide will only be accessed once you report the missing laptop to the Division of Public Safety. Once that occurs, CITES and Public Safety will work together, using the registration information, to find your laptop if it reappears on the campus network.
Registering your laptop only takes a few minutes and the service is available to anyone with a NetID from the University of Illinois.
