Laptop Clinics
This page contains information about the CITES laptop clinics.
The CITES Security Group and the CITES Help Desk offer regular laptop clinics open to all members of the University of Illinois community. These laptop clinics not only help improve the security and performance of your laptop, but in turn, help improve the security of the campus network by making more machines secure. The laptop clinics are offered at no cost, and usually run from 10 am to 3 pm. Members of the University of Illinois community are also welcome to bring personal laptops to the laptop clinics.
At a CITES laptop clinic, the following services will be offered:
- Registering laptops with CITES Security to aid in the retrieval of lost or stolen laptops.
- Installing antivirus and antispyware software
- Updating system software
- Activating the laptop's firewall
- Updating browsers
- Installing PasswordVault
- Installing VPN Software
- Setting Up NetFiles (with network shortcut)
- Setting up CITES Spam Control
- Other general troubleshooting that individual laptops may require
Campus-wide laptop clinics will take place:

- January 27, 2010, ACES Library (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
- February 18, 2010, Undergraduate Library, Room 295 (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
- March 16, 2010, ACES Library (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
- April 14, 2010, Undergraduate Library, Room 295 (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
- May 20, 2010, DCL 2240 (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
- June 22, 2010, ACES Library (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
- July 21, 2010, Undergraduate Library, Room 295 (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
