Personal Machine Emergency

This page contains information about what to do if you have a security problem with a computer of your own.

If you have a problem with your personal or home machine, you may be able to get support from the system administrator in your department. Some departments assist with home computers but others do not. If you are not sure, call your department secretary during business hours.

If your personal computer is not supported by your department, you can call the CITES Help Desk at (217) 244-7000.

When you call, be as specific as you can about the problem you are having, and be ready for a Help Desk representative to ask you questions like:

  • What kind of operating system are you running (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX)?
  • Do you have antivirus software installed?
