    This scenario explains how to securely connect to UIUCnet from an off-campus location, and how to protect your computer while you're networked.

    The campus VPN system will also identify you as an authorized user of UIUCnet, so that you can receive on-campus access rights through a faster connection than dialup. The campus VPN works with any network connection and with most operating systems.

    The University of Illinois WebStore distributes many no-cost security programs such as antivirus software, Secure Shell/Secure FTP, PasswordVault, and more. Many other applications (by Macromedia, Microsoft, and others) are available to students at a significant educational discount.

    If your computer is infected with a virus, you should use a copy of the Antivirus CD to remove the virus. You can also perform additional security steps such as patching and firewall installation by following the instructions on the CD.
