Mac OS X Antivirus

Sophos (available since November 2008)

Mac OS X versions 10.2.8 and later

Both Intel and PowerPC architectures are supported in this release.

Installation

Important: You must have installation rights in order to install and update this software. Even if you are logged in as an administrator, you will be prompted for an authorized password during the installation and configuration processes.

  1. Purchase the Sophos package from the University of Illinois WebStore.
    Note: There is a $5 fee for Sophos.
  2. Download the .zip file from WebStore and uncompress it.
  3. Double-click the .mpkg file to start the installation.
  4. Follow the prompts provided by the installation package.

Use

After installation, the Sophos software will automatically handle regular system scanning for viruses, malware, and spyware, and will regularly update itself with the latest antivirus definitions.

Note: The CITES Sophos license expires on July 30, 2010. More information about Mac OS X antivirus alternatives for the 2010-2011 school year will be available closer to that time.
