Network Architecture

Before and after the Campus Network Upgrade Project is complete, information will travel to and from an end-user's computer in essentially the same manner. The improvements made to the campus network are being made in other areas, such as increasing the speed at which information will travel; improving the reliability and enhancing the security of the equipment; and increasing the ways and numbere of locations in which the end-user will be able to access the network.

To learn more about how the UIUCnet Network works, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of the site or view the following diagrams:

The other major change in the structure of the network will be in its core architecture. Information on the improvements to the core architecture is available in the November 2005 CCSP presentation.
