On November 17, 2011, Illinois Compass Second Generation made its campus-wide debut at Illinois. This is the most significant upgrade of Illinois Compass and the Blackboard software that powers it since CITES began running it in 2004. Users must choose to move to the second generation system in Spring, Summer or Fall 2012.

As the Urbana campus transitions from CITES Express Email to UC Exchange 2010, please be aware that incoming graduate and professional students are still automatically receiving accounts on Express Email. As of September 15, 2011, no new Express accounts will be created. Therefore after that date, new graduate students will no longer get Express Email accounts and they will be required to setup Exchange accounts.

CITES is participating in World IPv6 Day on June 8th by providing IPv6 on wireless, native IPv6 DNS service, NTP over IPv6, and supporting other department's IPv6 efforts with new networks on IPv6.

In October, 2010, CITES Network Services announced that the University of Illinois (including Urbana, UIS, UIC, and UA) would soon switch from Thawte, our current SSL vendor, to a new InCommon Certificate Service. Effective today, January 18, 2011, we are now issuing certificates exclusively through the new InCommon certificate service and are no longer issuing certificates purchased from Thawte.

The InCommon Federation has launched a new InCommon Certificate Service, which provides the higher education institutions with unlimited server and personal certificates at one fixed annual fee. InCommon is offering this service through a partnership with vendor Comodo CA Ltd. UIUC will be switching from its current SSL vendor, Thawte, to this new service.
