CITES Networking is pleased to announce two upcoming changes to our authoritative DNS infrastructure: dns3.illinois.edu will replace dns1.iu.edu as our off-site authoritative nameserver (in case of an Urbana campus outage), and IPv6 addresses will be added to our authoritative nameservers dns1.illinois.edu and dns2.illinois.edu.

For most customers, no action is required. However, action will be required for IT Pros who maintain slaved delegation zones.

In October, 2010, CITES Network Services announced that the University of Illinois (including Urbana, UIS, UIC, and UA) would soon switch from Thawte, our current SSL vendor, to a new InCommon Certificate Service. Effective today, January 18, 2011, we are now issuing certificates exclusively through the new InCommon certificate service and are no longer issuing certificates purchased from Thawte.

The InCommon Federation has launched a new InCommon Certificate Service, which provides the higher education institutions with unlimited server and personal certificates at one fixed annual fee. InCommon is offering this service through a partnership with vendor Comodo CA Ltd. UIUC will be switching from its current SSL vendor, Thawte, to this new service.

July 2009 turned out to be an all-time record month for the University of Illinois WebStore. Overall sales for the month totaled $287,665, a 14 percent increase over the prior all-time record sales month in August 2008. The increase can be attributed to the recent addition of Apple, Dell, and HP hardware and to the growing list of products offered on the WebStore.
