Bluestem Retirement

On June 28, 2013 the Bluestem login service will be retired. This announcement explains what services are replacing Bluestem.

For more than 16 years, the University of Illinois has relied on a homegrown tool called Bluestem to help people sign into a variety of Illinois web services and applications. Due to its age, Bluestem is becoming more and more difficult for CITES to maintain.

Therefore, on June 28, 2013, CITES will retire Bluestem.

Bluestem login pages will be replaced by login pages generated by from one of two University authentication services: Shibboleth or SiteMinder.

In most cases, logging in with these new services will require the same user name and password that were used to sign into Bluestem. For most people, only the look of the login pages will change.

A University of Illinois Shibboleth login screen will look like this:

A University of Illinois SiteMinder login screen will look like one of these two screens:

Which login page you will encounter will vary from service to service.

If you have any questions about the retirement of Bluestem or the new login pages, please contact the CITES Help Desk by email (consult@illinois.edu) or by phone (217-244-7000).
