On January 14, 2009, Illinois Compass began using Active Directory (AD) as the password for logging in (e.g., the same password that is used for CITES NetFiles). We suggest that you try logging in on January 14 to be sure that you have access to Illinois Compass before the spring semester begins. If you are unable to log in as you have in the past, it could be that you do not have an AD password, and you will need to set that using the CITES Password Manager . Please note, the CITES Password Manager makes it easy to set a single password for many CITES services, and you may wish to take this opportunity to consolidate all of your passwords.
The change in authentication will allow CITES to provide more options for Compass and to expand the service through plug-ins provided by third-party developers.
Some improvements and enhancements that CITES hopes to offer in the future that are dependent upon this change include:
- direct-linking to specific Illinois Compass course sites
- options for publicly available course content
- a voice recording option in the discussion board.
