The Oracle Calendar service was severely affected by the campus power problem Monday, August 25, and the resulting power outage in CITES' Data Center. A calendar database from this weekend has been restored. All Oracle Calendar changes and additions on Sunday and Monday, August 24 and 25 have been irretrievably lost.
Once power was restored and this service became available, we began to receive reports of data corruption in calendars. This corruption often caused the user's desktop Oracle Calendar client to crash. CITES took the Oracle Calendar service down shortly after 5pm Monday and tried to correct the corruption using vendor tools. However, this attempt was unsuccessful. By 8pm Monday we had restored the calendar service database to our last available backup: midnight (early Sunday morning) on 8/24. Any meetings that were added or changes made after that time have been lost.
We recognize the importance of calendar data and our customer's dependence on their calendar. We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused our Oracle Calendar customers. If you have any questions or experience problems with Oracle Calendar, please contact the CITES Help Desk at 244-7000 or email@example.com
