CITES Networking is pleased to announce two upcoming changes to our authoritative DNS infrastructure: dns3.illinois.edu will replace dns1.iu.edu as our off-site authoritative nameserver (in case of an Urbana campus outage), and IPv6 addresses will be added to our authoritative nameservers dns1.illinois.edu and dns2.illinois.edu.

For most customers, no action is required. However, action will be required for IT Pros who maintain slaved delegation zones.

On November 17, 2011, Illinois Compass Second Generation made its campus-wide debut at Illinois. This is the most significant upgrade of Illinois Compass and the Blackboard software that powers it since CITES began running it in 2004. As the Urbana campus transitions from CITES Express Email to UC Exchange 2010, please be aware that incoming graduate and professional students are still automatically receiving accounts on Express Email. As of September 15, 2011, no new Express accounts will be created. Therefore after that date, new graduate students will no longer get Express Email accounts and they will be required to setup Exchange accounts.

CITES is participating in World IPv6 Day on June 8th by providing IPv6 on wireless, native IPv6 DNS service, NTP over IPv6, and supporting other department's IPv6 efforts with new networks on IPv6. July 2009 turned out to be an all-time record month for the University of Illinois WebStore. Overall sales for the month totaled $287,665, a 14 percent increase over the prior all-time record sales month in August 2008. The increase can be attributed to the recent addition of Apple, Dell, and HP hardware and to the growing list of products offered on the WebStore.
