Logging In to the Campus Network

This page contains information about the methods used to log in to the campus network from both on and off campus.

How to sign in

  • UIUCnet QuickConnect
QuickConnect is a web-based authentication system that allows you to sign in to the network from on-campus locations. It's not available from off campus, and it doesn't allow access to all network services.
  • Campus VPN System
The campus VPN system is available both on campus and off campus, and allows unrestricted network access. You'll need to configure your computer to work with the VPN system.
  • Bluestem
Bluestem allows you to access web-based applications like the Library's Special Holdings from on or off campus.
  • Guest Services
Campus guests can also connect to the campus network with network guest accounts - or, in specially selected locations, they can use UI Public Wireless without a network guest account.

Network connection options

  • IllinoisNet: Secure, authenticated wireless networking (formerly UIwpa2)
The IllinoisNet wireless network builds the login process and security into the wireless connection. Once you've configured your computer, you can automatically reconnect whenever IllinoisNet is in range.
  • UIUCnet Wireless
UIUCnet Wireless is a basic wireless service that allows on-campus users to connect to the network through QuickConnect or the VPN. UIUCnet Wireless does not store your identity; you'll need to log in again each time you connect.
  • Network Access Scenarios
The scenarios describe how to connect to the campus network in a variety of situations, including Internet cafes, libraries, trips home on break, study abroad, and more.
