Using CITES NetFiles on a Windows PC

This page describes the options for accessing NetFiles from a Windows PC.

WebDrive

WebDrive is the recommended WebDAV software for Windows computers. Unlike other DAV clients, including the built-in client discussed above, the WebDrive software allows you to use CITES NetFiles as though the files were located on your computer rather than the NetFiles server.

Although any WebDAV client will provide access to your NetFiles folders and files, WebDrive goes a step farther by assigning a hard drive letter to your NetFiles account for the duration of your session. This allows you to use software programs that require a local drive for file management, such as Dreamweaver, to edit directly edit files saved in your CITES NetFiles account.

Installation and setup

  1. Point your web browser to the University of Illinois WebStore.
  2. Click the login icon and enter your NetID and password when prompted.
  3. Enter Webdrive in the search box and click Go.
  4. Click Add to cart.
  5. Click I Agree, then click Check out.

You can open a temporary Web Folders session from an Internet Explorer browser if you are using a public computer. For a permanent link to your NetFiles account, you can create a direct connection in My Network Places. Please note that the built-in client will not assign a drive letter to your NetFiles account.
