Web Publishing with CITES NetFiles
This page describes how to publish web pages with NetFiles.
By default your CITES NetFiles account contains two publicly accessible directories (www and shared), which means that anyone with web access can see the files in these directories. These directories were designed to be used for easy web publishing (www) and project collaboration (shared). An HTML file placed in either of your public directories will display as a web page.
Publishing your web pages
To publish your web pages, simply upload your HTML documents to your www directory as described in
Managing Your Files. The address for your web pages will be the following URL, where your NetID
(ex. jdoe) replaces YourNetID.
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/YourNetID/www/
If no filename is specified after the www/, a web browser will automatically display the index.html file. If no index.html can be found in your www directory, the web browser will display a list of all the files in your directory. For most web sites, index.html serves as the main page of the web site.
Other methods
If your web site contains many files, you may wish to publish using the WebDAV client for your operating system. For more information, please see CITES NetFiles on Your Desktop.
Windows users can use WebDrive software, available at no cost through the University of Illinois WebStore, to connect directly to Dreamweaver. For details, please see Using CITES NetFiles on a Windows PC.
