Getting Started with CITES NetFiles

This page contains basic information about using your CITES NetFiles account and links to more detailed instructions.

CITES NetFiles is designed to give University faculty, staff, and students a secure, convenient way to store homework, research notes, and other important documents. All CITES NetFiles users receive 500 MB of storage at no cost.

Signing Up for CITES NetFiles

The first time you use CITES NetFiles, you will need to sign up for the service. You will need to sign up for CITES NetFiles only once.

  1. Point your web browser to the NetFiles Signup Page and follow the instructions given.
  2. After signing up, wait at least 5 minutes before logging in to CITES NetFiles for the first time. This will ensure that your account information has been distributed to all CITES NetFiles servers.

Logging In to CITES NetFiles

The fastest way to get started with CITES NetFiles is by using the CITES NetFiles web interface.

  1. Open your web browser and go to https://netfiles.uiuc.edu.
  2. Enter your NetID in the Username field and your AD password in the Password field.
  3. Click OK.

Uploading Files

  1. Click the Upload button at the right side of the toolbar.
  2. If uploading more than one file, click the Add File button to increase the number of files.
  3. Select the file(s) you wish to upload by clicking the Browse button.
  4. Click Start Upload.

Uploading Files (Alternate Method)

  1. Click the Upload button at the right side of the toolbar.
  2. Click the Advanced Upload link.
  3. Add files or folders by dragging and dropping them into the upload box.
  4. Click the Start Upload button.

Moving Files

  1. Click the file(s) you wish to move.
  2. Click the Move button in the left side of the toolbar.
  3. In the Destination field, either type the file's new path or click the arrow icon at the end of the field and select a new folder for the file.
  4. Click OK.

Deleting Files

  1. Click the file(s) you wish to delete.
  2. Click the Delete button at the left side of the toolbar.
  3. Double-click the trash folder and click the Empty Trash button to permanently delete the files.
