Managing Your Files
This page describes how to manage the files in your in CITES NetFiles account, including uploading and downloading files, creating and deleting new folders, moving and copying files, and bookmarking directories.
Uploading files
Uploading files means that you are adding files to your NetFiles space. To copy a file from your computer's hard drive or other storage device:
- Log in to CITES NetFiles on the Web and click the Upload button
in the upper-right portion of the document manager. - If your browser supports the Advanced Upload function, you may simply drag files and directories into the Advanced Upload window. Otherwise, click the Add Files button and choose files one at a time.
- When you have selected all the files you wish to upload, click Start Upload. You will automatically be returned to your home directory when the upload has finished.
Downloading or viewing files
When you're ready to edit a file, follow these instruction to save it to your computer:
- Log in to CITES NetFiles on the Web and double click on the name of the file you wish to download.
- You will be prompted to choose whether to open or save the file. Choose the save option to download a copy of the file to your computer. To view the file, choose open.
- You may also right-click (command-click on Mac) the file or files you wish to download, which will give you the option of saving to your desktop, opening the file in your browser, or saving multiple files as a single zip file. Note: some browsers will overlay their own menu on top of the NetFiles menu when right-clicking. The NetFiles menu can still be reached by clicking away from the menu, which will close the browser menu and leave the NetFiles menu open.
Remember, when you download a file and edit it, the changes apply only to the version saved on your local computer. For the latest version to appear on NetFiles, you must upload the edited file.
Creating new folders
- Click on the New Folder button
. - Enter a name for the folder in the Folder Name text box and click Next.
- Click Finish to create a folder that only you can access.
Deleting files and folders
- Click the file or folder to select it.
- Click the Delete button
in the upper-left portion of the Document Manager to move the file
to the Trash.
- Files in the Trash directory are still counted against your quota. Empty your Trash by right-clicking the Trash folder and selecting Empty Trash. Note that some browsers will cover the NetFiles right-click menu with their own menu. If this occurs, click away from the menu to close the browser menu, leaving the NetFiles menu open.
Moving and copying files and directories
Moving
- Check the box next to the file or directory you wish to move and click the Move button
in the upper-left portion of the Document Manager. - Click the Browse button, click on the link for the location to which you wish to move the file or directory, and then click OK to select it.
- Click OK to move the file or directory to the new location. NetFiles automatically takes you to the new location of the file or directory.
Copying
- Check the box next to the file or directory you wish to move and click the Copy button
on the toolbar. - Click the Browse button, click on the link for the location to which you wish to copy the file or directory, and then click OK to select it.
- Click OK to copy the file or directory to the new location. NetFiles automatically takes you to the new location of the file or directory.
Bookmarking a directory
To bookmark a directory, navigate to the directory you wish to bookmark, then click the star icon
in the right side of the
Navigation Bar. Choose a name for the bookmark and click OK.
