Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Director, Research and Learning Technology Services.
This is a new position providing leadership and oversight of the Research and Learning Technology Services group within CITES. This position reports to the Executive Director and will be responsible for providing comprehensive IT strategies and solutions to meet research and teaching needs of faculty and students.
Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for developing and implementing the overall vision and direction of the Research and Learning Technology Services group in its relationship to serving the Urbana campus primarily by understanding faculty scholarly activity and how IT can facilitate discovery.
- Responsible for providing management, governance, and executing the Learning Technology, Research Support, Computing Technology, and Learning Space functions of the unit.
- Serve as primary advisor to the Executive Director regarding overall programs, management and operations of the unit, with major program development, supervision and policy‐making responsibility.
- Build and maintain relationships with faculty and partner with them on how CITES can provide technology solutions to facilitate their research interests
- Partner and work with the CIO’s Cyberinfrastructure Impact Analyst and College research grant offices to assess how IT can make the grant proposal process more successful.
- Provide direction and oversee the development of programs related to teaching and learning with technology.
- Manage the training, professional development, and management of work assigned to professional and technical support staff.
- Perform annual performance reviews and continuously evaluate staff as well as provide mentoring and coaching. Responsible for helping to establish promotional paths within CITES and on the Urbana campus.
- Responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of unit by participating in ABC costing, establishing and maintaining Lines of Business (LOB), allocation of adequate resources to meet needs.
- Participate in strategic planning and policy development for CITES, as a member of the leadership team by contributing to the joint team effort in decision authority, communication throughout all levels of CITES, fiscal responsibility, strategic planning and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide management reports, analyses, data and information for administrative purposes.
- Interface with advisory committees, serve on campus or University committees, communicate and consult with other offices or campus officials when appropriate.
- Ensure that staff have the resources, information, and decision making authority needed to do their jobs.
- Participate in the coordination of the outreach cross‐function team responsible for designing an effective workflow and processes related to proactively pursuing and responding to customer requests and issues
- Participate in implementing IT Service Management processes throughout CITES
- Ensure excellent Customer Service throughout the Research and Learning Technologies group and by partnering with the CITES Service Desk by setting and managing the expectations of customers; acting as an advocate for CITES clients in service planning and deployment across the organization; and resolving customer satisfaction issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PHD Required
- Faculty research experience
- Understanding the technology needs of faculty and students in learning
- Understanding the researcher need in securing grants and support
- Experience in teaching and learning with technology, using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Content Management Systems (CMS), instructional design methodology, or other related experience
- Demonstrated ability in effective communication and collaborating in a high performance team environment
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service
- Experience in participating in diverse workgroups
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
This position is a full time, 12 month, Academic Professional position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
