Role: Full-time Associate Director, Enterprise Infrastructure
Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is seeking an Associate Director, Enterprise Infrastructure.
This position provides leadership and oversight of the Enterprise Infrastructure group within Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES). This position reports to the Executive Director and will be responsible for establishing long‐range strategic technical direction for the group, coordinate and implement new business and service models, and acts as primary liaison for critical external relationships.
Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for providing Data Center Operations, Servers and Systems Administration, and Storage & Backup functions of the organization.
- Responsible for the implementation and support of server hardware, UNIX, Linux and Windows operating system platforms, virtualization environments, Hosted Servers, High Performance Clusters.
- Responsible for the implementation and support of Storage Area Network, mass‐storage units, backup & restore of systems and data.
- Responsible for the implementation and support of networks, systems and storage monitoring, capacity management tools; environmental, power and security monitoring of the datacenter facilities.
- Manage hardware maintenance, track and stay in compliance with software licensing agreements.
- Manage datacenter hardware assets.
- Implement and maintain Disaster Recover and Business Continuity Planning.
- Serve as CITES liaison to other IT units on campus.
- Manage the training, professional development, and management of work assigned to professional and technical support staff.
- Perform annual performance reviews and continuously evaluate staff as well as provide mentoring and coaching. Responsible for helping to establish promotional paths within CITES and on the Urbana campus.
- Responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of unit by participating in ABC costing, establishing and maintaining Lines of Business (LOB), allocation of adequate resources to meet needs.
- Participate in strategic planning and policy development for CITES, as a member of the leadership team by contributing to the joint team effort in decision authority, communication throughout all levels of CITES, fiscal responsibility, strategic planning and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide management reports, analyses, data and information for administrative purposes.
- Interface with advisory committees, serve on campus or University committees, communicate and consult with other offices or campus officials when appropriate.
- Ensure that staff have the resources, information, and decision making authority needed to do their jobs.
- Participate in the coordination of the outreach cross‐function team responsible for designing an effective workflow and processes related to proactively pursuing and responding to customer requests and issues.
- Participate in implementing IT Service Management processes throughout CITES
- Ensure excellent Customer Service throughout the Enterprise Infrastructure group by partnering with the CITES Service Desk by setting and managing the expectations of customers; acting as an advocate for CITES clients in service planning and deployment across the organization; and resolving customer satisfaction issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree required
- Five or more years in the area of Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in server virtualization and SAN configurations in support of large scale rollouts
- At least 2 years of experience in the University environment, including:
- Production rollouts
- Production standards
- Production support planning, coordination, migrations and technology refreshes
- Participation in large infrastructure planning and implementation
- Demonstrated ability in effective communication and collaborating in a high performance team environment
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service
- Experience in participating in diverse workgroups
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
This position is a full time, 12 month, Academic Professional position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Individuals who will receive a bachelor's degree within the next few months are eligible to apply, but degree must be earned before start of appointment.
