About Iris

Introduction

Iris is a web-based interface that allows campus network administrators to view and edit CITES-managed switch ports in networks for which they are responsible.

Since Iris is Web-based and authenticated by Bluestem, you can access your network's information from anywhere in the world.

Iris depends on Contact Manager for its authorization information, so you should make sure to keep your contact information and your department's contact lists up to date.

Iris v5.3 released on 05/21/07

• Port Security available on all campus switch models (HP, Cisco and
  Foundry)
  • Port Security changes made on a port take immediate effect without any additional checks or warning messages
• Enhanced user interface with the following:
  • Page header rearrangement and font reduction, along with option to display/hide switch details
    
  • Addition of cookie based preferences
• Code changes to better manage SIGPIPE upon user hangup
• Removed support for Cisco Catalyst 2900 switches
• Various bug fixes

Iris v5.2 released on 11/13/06

• Port Security available on all HP switch models
  • In Iris, Port Security refers to locking or binding a specific host's Ethernet MAC address to a given switch port with the general intent to deny connectivity to any other MAC address through that port
  • Port Security changes made on a port take immediate effect without any additional checks or warning messages
• Enhanced user interface with the following:
  • Wider availability of search for MAC address
  • User friendly view of logged changes per port
  • Addition of tabs for various data views in a more direct manner
  • Ability to work with a subset of ports using the zoom in/zoom out features
• Various bug fixes

Iris v5.1 released on 5/1/06

• Users now have the ability to demote themselves to read-only: super users can become an ordinary user.
• Port count is now updated when a port is moved from one network to another. This fixes one of the known issues of v5.0.
• Code changes to improve response time of Iris for super users
• Addition of release history notes

Iris v5.0 released on 4/17/06

Enhanced user interface with the following:

• The ability to sort table rows by different columns
• The ability to filter (hide) table rows by keyword values on one or more columns
• Tooltips added to all links and a number of other UI elements
• External context-sensitive links to CITES Contact Manager and campus maps
• More "lateral" navigation links within Iris that allow you to flip between different data views, networks, and devices in a more direct manner
• Many interface elements include port counts, so you have some indication of the density and distribution of your network ports.
• Tables that display MAC addresses now also display registered manufactures (OUI owners).
• "Instant" port enable/disable features on many table displays, including the Port Status Overview, MAC Addresses view, and MAC Address Search Results view

Iris v4.5 released on 1/23/06

• Code improvement to better detect new switch deployment and determination of changes to SNMP community strings
• Code changes that put port information into the cache

Iris v4.4 released on 12/21/05

• Ability to change the network assignment for ports on a switch
  • To change the network to which a port belongs, the network must exist on the uplink port of the switch and the user must have write access in Contact Manager to both the current and destination networks.

Iris v4.3 released on 11/13/05

• Addition of location of switches

• Addition of fast CGI scripting
• Replaced Iris back-end from flat file data storage to a real database
• Added support for scoped networks

Iris v3.5 released on 9/12/02

  • Users can get port data in a tab-delimited format.
  • Port number and name are now quick links for detailed info on that port.

• Enhanced user interface with the following:
  • Display ports vertically instead of horizontally
  • Group switch variables according to type
  • Port groupings by 8 ports

Iris v3.0 released on 8/21/00

• Ability to write changes to port name, port duplex setting, port speed and port administrative status
