What is a Bluestem Non-NetID (PWF) guest account?

Bluestem is a Web-based authentication system used to protect access to restricted information in University of Illinois online services.

A Bluestem non-NetID guest account, also known as a PWF, allows access to many Bluestem applications without the network and email privileges associated with a complete NetID.

Many on-campus Bluestem-secured web applications accept PWF accounts as an alternative to complete NetIDs or guest NetIDs.

How do you request this type of account?

PWF account creation is managed on an application-by-application basis.

To have a temporary PWF account created for a particular Bluestem-protected application, you'll need to contact the unit that owns the application.

What information will you need to provide about your guest(s)?

Certain information is commonly needed:

  • Guest's first name
  • Guest's last name
  • Other information may vary by application

What other types of guest accounts are available?

The University Hosts and Sponsors' Guide lists all the types of guest accounts that are available, including network accounts, computer lab accounts, online coursework access accounts, and more.
