Configure Thunderbird for Mac IMAP for Illinois.edu

This page contains the steps necessary to have your NetID@illinois.edu address be available as a “From” address through Thunderbird for Mac IMAP.

To change your "Reply-To" and "From" email addresses in Thunderbird, do the following:

  1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  2. Click on Tools in the top menu.
  3. Select Account Settings.

  4. In the left menu, select your netid@uiuc.edu email account.

  5. If your Account Name is your email address, change this to reflect your netid@illinois.edu address and continue to Step #9. If your Account Name is not your email address, go to Step #6.
  6. Change your Email Address field to: netid@illinois.edu
  7. Change your Reply-To Address field to: netid@illinois.edu
  8. Click on the Manage Identities button.

  10. Type your name in the Your Name field.
  11. In the Email Address field, put your netid@illinois.edu email address.
  12. In the Reply-To Address field, put your netid@illinois.edu email address.

  13. Click the OK button.
  14. Click the OK button.
  15. Click the OK button.

When composing an email, you will now be able to select either your netid@uiuc.edu or your netid@illlinois.edu email address.
