Configure Outlook IMAP for Illinois.edu

This page contains the steps necessary to have your NetID@illinois.edu address be available as a “From” address through Outlook IMAP.

Note: There is no way to make Outlook send email from both your netid@uiuc.edu email address and your netid@illinois.edu address from within the same account. However, if you do want to send from both your email addresses, you can configure two accounts within Outlook; one for your netid@illinois.edu account and one for your netid@uiuc.edu email account.

The problem with this is that both Outlook accounts will be checking your email at the same time which could cause problems. For example, if you have both accounts connecting via POP3, emails might appear in one account but not the other. Therefore, it is recommended that you only use your netid@illinois.edu address in Outlook. If you need the functionality of sending from both addresses, you will need to use another desktop email client.

To change your "Reply-to" and "From" email addresses in Outlook, do the following:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click on Tools in the top menu.
