Creating and Editing Grade Book Entries

Entering Grades

To access the Grade Book tool, select the Teach tab, and under Instructor Tools select Grade Book.

To enter a single grade for a student, click on the cell that you want to enter grade data for.

Enter the grade data in the pop-up window. If desired, you can also add comments in the Comment text box. These comments can only be viewed by instructors, and cannot be viewed by students. When you are finished, click Save.

To enter grades for an entire column, click on the name of the column that you want to enter grades for. From the dropdown menu that appears, click on Edit Values.

Enter the grade data in the text box(es) under the "Change to" column. You can use the tab button on your keyboard to toggle down the column and insert grades. When you are finished, click Save.

Editing Grades

You can edit grades exactly as you enter new grades. Please see the above section Entering Grades for detailed instructions.

Sorting Grades

Click on the Title of the column that you want to sort. In the dropdown menu that appears, click on Sort Column. Once the column is sorted, you will be able to re-sort the column by clicking on the arrow that appears under the column name. The direction of the arrow indicates whether the column is sorted in ascending or descending order.

Releasing Grades to Students

Only gradable columns can be released to students, and students are only allowed to view their own grades.

Select the Teach tab, and under Instructor Tools select Grade Book.

Click on the gray arrow next to Grade Book Options, and select Column Settings from the dropdown menu.

To release one column to students, toggle the No (in the Released to Student row) under the column that you want to release so that it reads Yes.

To release more than one column to students, select the check box(es) at the top of the column(s) that you want to release to students. Select Release.

To release all columns to students, select the check box next to "Select All/None" so that all of the columns' check boxes are selected. Select Release.

If you want to change the release setting so that students cannot view their grades, following one of the methods above and check Do Not Release.
