Illinois Compass supports WebDav, an internet technology that allows you to manipulate files on a web server as if they were on your local machine. When an instructor accesses Illinois Compass via WebDav, a folder is created on his or her desktop for the Illinois Compass file manager. Instructors are then able to drag and drop files from their desktop to that folder and vice versa. This tutorial will go through the steps necessary to establish a webDav session with Illinois Compass.
Please Note: You can use WebDAV on the Macintosh OS version 10.4 and higher. Go to Finder and from the menu bar, choose Go, and then Connect to Server. For the Server Address, paste in the text box the WebDAV address path from the View WebDAV Info feature of the File Manager (see tutorial below). When prompted for a username and password, provide your Active Directory login and password.
Password protected WebDav applications at UIUC, such as Netfiles and Illinois Compass, require authenticating with your Active Directory (AD) password. If you have net yet activated your Active Directory password, you will need to do so before being able to access these services. To activate your Active Directory password, please visit: http://accounts.ad.uiuc.edu/.
Please Note: Active Directory passwords are only required for using WebDav. All other services and functions in Illinois Compass can be accessed through the web interface using your NetID password.
To access the File Manager, select the Build tab, and under Designer Tools select File Manger.

Click on the dropdown menu next to File Manger, and choose View WebDAV Info.

A pop-up window appears displaying the WebDAV path.

Ensure that the text is selected in the text box and press Ctrl+C on your keyboard in order to copy the text to your computer's clipboard.
From the Windows Start Menu, click on My Network Places icon.

The contents of the My Network Places folder appear. Click on Add a network place.

The Add Network Place Wizard pop-up window appears. Click Next.

Select Choose another network location and hit Next.

Ensure that your cursor is in the "Internet or network address" text box and press Ctrl+V on your keyboard in order to place the clipboard's contents (Compass WebDAV info) into the text box. Click Next.

In the pop-up window that appears, enter your Active Directory user name and password and click OK.

If you wish, name the folder and click Next. Windows opens the web folder you created in its own window. You may be asked to enter your Active Directory user name and password again at this point.

A confirmation page will tell you that your new network place was created successfully. Click Finish.

You will now find this folder in your Network Neighborhood or My Network Places. You can now drag and drop or copy/move files into this folder, like any other Windows folder. Files added to the folder will be automatically uploaded to the Illinois Compass server whenever you are connected to the Internet. The next time you access this folder, you may be asked to enter your user name and password. This will be your Active Directory user name and password.

Please Note: It may take a few minutes to display the contents in the folder.
