Research Programmer Position

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) seeks an experienced and creative individual for a regular, full-time (12-month) position as a Research Programmer in the Educational Technologies division of Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES). The Research Programmer will work closely with the CITES enterprise-wide Learning Management System and customer support.

Detailed Description:

  • Oversee Course Site Requests workflow, which includes managing and tracking requests, correcting or modifying information in database, coordinating responses with appropriate staff, and creating and maintaining correlations for roster retrieval and uploading. 30%
  • Assist with Illinois Compass learning context hierarchy management, including assisting with the day-to-day process for course creations and instructor/designer enrollments, and ensuring course sites match instructor requests in site request database. 20%
  • Serve as liaison between user support and technicians to solve support issues involving Illinois Compass learning context hierarchy. 20%
  • Provide general administrative support when needed, including routing support calls to appropriate staff or general office coverage. 10%
  • Provide support for the scheduling and implementation of archiving/backing up course sites in Mallard, WebBoard, Illinois Compass. 5%
  • Coordinate and implement course content migration services from Blackboard or other legacy course management systems to Illinois Compass. 5%
  • Provide support for video technology and streaming media services, test emerging software applications for pedagogical applications, create user documentation for products supported or promoted by CITES EdTech. 5%
  • Other duties as assigned. 5%

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years relevant work experience in the use of WebCT Vista or comparable learning management systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of standard Internet information delivery systems and communications tools (HTML, FTP, e-mail, WebDAV, etc).
  • General knowledge of XML, CGI, and SQL.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience providing help desk/user support.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in information management in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented work environment.
  • Experience with streaming audio and video.
  • Desire to acquire new skills and stay current with rapidly changing technology.
  • Desire to understand educational processes and how technology impacts learning.

Salary:

The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Starting date:
