Design or Redesign

For IT Pros
This page contains information about the Network Design Office's design services.

Introduction

The main function of the Network Design Office (NDO) is to provide network design advice. The NDO:

For stand-alone LANs in campus units, the NDO can determine the suitability of a LAN design for the applications that will run on the LAN, and it can highlight the advantages and disadvantages of competing networking products.

Lead Time

Five to six weeks.

Policies and Procedures

When you submit a design request, the manager of the NDO will assign your request to a network designer who will work directly with you for the duration of your project. Once your request has been assigned, the manager will call or email to notify of your network designer's name. Your network designer will then arrange an initial meeting to discuss your networking plans.

The network designer will obtain the building floor plans for your site and will take an initial survey to obtain information about your current and future computing equipment setup. Armed with the survey information, your network designer will generate a network design.

After the design has been presented to you, you may request any number of modifications. When you accept the design, your network designer will oversee the installation and will help establish follow-up network support.

See the NDO Outside Vendor Policy for information about working with outside vendors to design campus building networks.
